Gold,-Owing to the very large withdrawals (£450,000) in sovereigns for ladis which took p'aca last Thursday, the Bank of England de- cided to offer a slight inducement to the Bullion Brokers to secure for them as much as they could of the £600,000 bar gold that arrived from the Cape and India. The rendit, was eminently satisfactory, as the Bank was abla to obtain close an £500,000, the greater part of which would otherwise have gone to the Costinent. This £100,000 lacluded about £150,000 which was held over from last week.

The demand for small gold bais for India continues on a very large scale; the amount to be shipped this week is far5,000. The shipment of sovereigas to Paris will not con tinue much longer. ¿
