CHINESE PORK IN-ENGLAND,
Dr. Herbert Williams, Medical Officer of Heath of the Port of London, has notified to the Corporation the recent arrival of a steamer of Greenwich conveying with other cargo 3,647 frozen carcases of pigs from Hainan, in China. These carcases had a label attached certifying that they had been examined at the place of slaughter, but such certificate' had not received the approval of the Local Government Board, and so was not an "official" certificate within the meaning of the Public Health (Foreign- | Ment) Regulations, 1908. . Inasmuch as the backbones. had been removed, the carcaseE were not the entire carcase of the pig, there fore, were technically foreign meat of Class I. The carcasas remained on board the steamer. Among the cargo wern 65 cases of "piga bunga," which consisted of portions of intestines imported solely for making
sago: skins, Many of these had indica tions that the pigs had suffered from swine faver. Another vessel arrived later on, from Chios with 2,62x similar carcases. Of these Soo were antire and the remainder ware with out backbones. There were also on board 51 | packages of "pige' bongs" with similar indica
