Canton is expected to win the Seniors as they have been in training for the last two months and also postess a far superior boat.
L.A. Musso' is stroking the V.R.C. Seniors, consisting of Ball 3. Galluzzi a and Alves bow, a good combination against any crew, but, alas, they lack a good bout and cannot win against Canton in a boat many lbs, lighter.

The Hongkong Regatta takes place oo the rath March; the events are the same as the Canton Regatta and the same crews have estered, the only difference being that Canton must row in the same class of boats and if they do'sn. the Dalai Lama as his reputation very bad. An Imperial Rescript was issued the time to deprive bins of his title of Dalai Lama temporarily, The Dalai then went to Kalau (Urga), and thence to isiping. The late Emperor, seeing his journeys fa the remote land and seeing his repentance, ordered the local officinis to look after him carefully providing funds. Then he came up to Peking and was granted audience and given many valuable presents god titles and funds. Moreover on his way to Lhasa special delegates of the government were attached to him to protect him. Howevor on his way to Lhasa the Dalai sought money everywhere and caused much trouble. Yet we have not dealt with him and his position in order to show our friend ship. The troops of Szechuan have simply entered Thibet to maintain the peace of Thibet and to gdard open ports and the Thibetans bad no doubt in the matters. However the Dalai We would like to know in what respect flung upon his return to Thibet has spread all sorts of kong has acted in an unsportsmanlike spirit: rumours especially that the imperial Resident has stopped his allowances and instead of tead. We only ask Canton to come down here to row as unequal terms" and they refuse. What, ing the Thibetans in a proper course he has hut is the deduction? That they are unsportman-run into troubles. Lies Yu, the Imperial Resi
3rd lost, I have just beard that the secretary of the Hoogkong Regatta has received:n letter trom the Canton Regatta secretary stating their in ability to row in the forthcoming Hongkong Regatta, the reason being that they cannot comply with the conditions laid down by the Hongkong Regatta Commutes for the Challenge Cup, viz, that all crews have to row in the same class of boats, and not only this but they have characterised aur donduct as being "unsportsmanlike" and for this reason their own regatta is abandoned.
As Canton are well aware they have been winning for years, and in not one instance has Victory beep attributed to their rowing, but to thele superiority in boats, and now that they are given a chance to row in equal boats they back out; what is the inference -—.
It is a great pity that Canton has abandoned their regatta in such a childish manner, as both the V.R.C. and C.YO. crews have been training hard and were looking forward to giving Canton a good rade, although as I said before they had not much sope of winning on account of their heavier boats. Surely, something could be settled between the committees on both sides to bring about an amicable seulement of the whole question,

It has cam at one and, the upper portion of which withdraws the striker to the rear, and the lower pushes the spring guide slightly forward. The most notable point about this gun in ita extreme lightness and adaptability for move. ment along the crooked and impossible Chin.. ese tracks. For this purpose the trail is jointed at the centre, and when folded over and a pala inserted, gun and limber can be handled separately. In the trials it was found that two Chinese ponies which averaged about 12.3 could draw either load with comfort over the sandy bed of the Bun Ho river, and this despite the fact that on saddles bad been sent out for the drivers. The Chinese drivers from the artillery of the 6th Division who were used in this test were beyond all praise, and trotted made atront as though the abronce of a saddle no difference to them.
The gun and mounting call for no special comment. The firing lever, and cartridge retainer are as described for the moon- tain guo. An open as well as a panoramic sights provided. The shooting of the gun was good. In the rapidity text, unaim- cd, ten rounds were fired in 33 secs. In the aimed test the dust bung a little in front of the gun on account of the wind blowing down, range, and ten rounds took min, 47 10. They were all very well placed for location, however, and grouped within a few inches of each other in the target at 1,000 metres rauge. The trial will sink a little the first few rounds in the sandy soil we are tiring on.

With one man loading, and fiting, tea rounds were got off in'x min, 44 secs, all on the target. About 700 hits were obtained with 20 rounds of sharpoel on three screens, each so metres apart, one behind the other, at a range of 2,500 metres. The screens were 50 metres echelon to the gun. The sharpnel were barst long and 2 metres high and were slightly in some II metres high and 62 metres short of the nearest screen, and it would be interesting to know if this was the best place to get the max. imum effect on the three targets. The shell breaks up on burst, which suppose gives a greater cone of dispersion to the bullets,
