HEAVY DAMAGE.

Shonly after 7:30 pm, on the 28th ultima ̄n ̄ policeman observed clouds of smoke`issuing from a godown behind the premises on the Bund at Yokohama occupied by Messrs. Yama bo, photographers. An alarm was at once given, but by the time the fire, brigade arrived it was obvious to the most casual observer that the premises occupied by the photographers wars doomed. The building was constructed of wood, with a few bricks for supports, and detached, the nearest buildings being the premises occupied by Messrs, Oppasteimer on the one side, und . Massen. Among those people staying at the Oriental Hotel were many who had journeyed up from Tokyo to be present at the ball given at the Deutsche Asiatische Bank, and as soon as the news of the fire roached them, many left for the hotel to secure their belongings. Four firemen were severely injured by the falling wall, bat fortenstely these are the only casualties. The damage is as yet unkoown but will probably amount to, several hundreds of thousand
