The Chinese use the sweeten I milk, which constitutes vary much the greater part of the trade, while the foreigners'io China are the wasweetened evaporated cream. Milk is put up ia tips of 16 and to ounces, the first being the popular iize. The Shanghai and North Chios trade is controlled by American brands, while European brande predominate the south, around Canton.
It is estimated that during recent years from 5,900 to 19,000 fins per your have been, put on the markets in imitation of a popular American, brand of milk, This milk was manufactured outside of Chlas, imported without labels, end Chinese printers bited to make the imitatić n labels. This trade, however, has been checked during the past year by the firm stand taken by Chinese officials to free their markets from such discreditable proceedings. Sefton ascended the Segama (sands of gold) River, and found the voyage one of extreme difficulty. The climate was decidedly trying and the river was full of shoals and rapide, Colours of gold were found in lots of places along the baoks, and Sefton was favourably impressed with all that he saw, but the loss of his boat and sickness of several of his natives compafled him to retură much sooner than he intended. Undelerred by his first want of success, he organised another expedition and returned to the attack, Agala bis party was decimated by favor, and again he lost a boat containing stores and provisions.
