Dating part of the year 1907 and 1968, Mr. G. O. Simpson has carried on a very interest- ing research in the Goverment Meteorological Office at Simla, India. By means of self-register- ing apparatus ha collected systematic records of the electricity brought down by the rain, and he madelaboratory experiments. The total amount of rainfall recorded was 7.63 centimetres (about o in.), and the total amount of positive electri- city found in theʻralo was 32,3 elatrostatic units per square centimetro, and of negative electri- city 7.6 units; so that about 75 per .crt of the rain was electrically positive. The beavier the fall, the more the positive charges predominat ed; but light rain was, as a rule, more strongly electric than heavy rain, and in the second half of a shower more negative electricity was "found'than'lp'the first half. Laboratorý experi ments proved that waterdrops, broken up by filling on an ascending vertical air current gava positively charged water particles, while the air tested in an Eberi'ionisation apparatum indicated an excess of a negative charge corresponding to the positive charge of the drops. When Lecard who first traced colhode rays outside their glass tubes investigated these phenomena in 1904, be observed that drops more thao 5.5 millimetres (about 1/5 in.) in diameter will break up when falling, and are, therefore, unstable; and that the velocity of drops of less than 5.5 millimetres in diameter falling through air cannot exceed 8 metres per second. These draps will not be able to descend, therefore, when the ascending Melancholy, Chlorosis, Impaired Nutrition current has a velocity of 8 meters par second; and as larger drops would be broken up during Scrofula, Low Vitality, and all troubles of the the fall, no rain can descend against an air.
