ALLEGED EMBLZZLEMENT.

Chu Yeung Yin, an accountant of the Cantan. Haokow Railway Company, who is alleged to hava embezzled a sum of over $1,400 from the Company and who subsequently absconded, was arrested yesterday as the result of the re- wards offered by the Railway Company for the man's apprehension. Che Yeung Yn has been banded to the Namboi Magistrate to be tried and punished. It is unt knowa what form the punishment (if any) will take, ponding lostruc tions from H.E. Chang Chit Tong, whois deeply faterested in the Canton-Hankow Railway, especially at the present moment, when trode blas are brewing owing to the differences among factious parties of shareholders, ・

The three robbers Lụ Ah Kwai, Lu Man Yen and Wong Ah Vu, who have lately been want. ed by the Kwanging Commander-in-Chief t Walchow and who were arrested in Hongkong, short time ago, were yesterday extradited to Canina. They are at present in the custody of the Provincial judge.

THE NEW VICEROY.

COMMERCIAL.

PAUN MARKET-

Hongkong, 20th August, 1909. The firm feeling alluded to in last report bas been abi anly well maintained, but much strengthened by advices of an active and rising market in Shanghai, A brisk and better in- quiry existed throughout the greater part of past fortnight and dealers have, in several instances advanced on their offers which had previously been refused. Prices of No. 20 show litic fluctuation but an advance of $1 to $2 per bale has been established for saitable desire- able tickers of Nos. 109 and 129, which have been in strong demand for the Northern' and East Coast markets, Receipts for the fortnight are much above the average, but as the off- takes also show a considerable increase, out estimate of stocks shows only a small addition whee compared with last figures, and the market closes firm. Bombay in reported quiet but strong, and latest telegrams from that port quote Asar No. 101, 6) angas and, Victoria No. 201,74 annas, per pound. The monsoon conditions sic so far satisfactory, sufficiant rain having fallen all over India.

Bains of the interval aggregate 8,353 bales, arrivals amount to 19,000 bales, posold stock estimated at 20,000 and uncleared yarn in sa cond hands about 36,000 bales, --Local:-Manufacture-Sales-of-about 400 bales Nos, tos and 125 at 5126 and $izo respec tively are reported.
