Mr. Freisland said there was now strong competition in the coasting steamship trade in The Orient, especially in the South Chios service, where the new Chinese national steam- ship line had become a factor. The Chiness about the world subscribed stock in this lins, and a start has been made with three chartered Norwegian steamers running from Hongkong to Bangkok and other ports of Indo China. Mr. Freisland thinks, however, that the com- petition will not be leng maintained. He bo- lieves the Chinese line has not sufficient capital to continue the war and mast sooner or later go-to the wall. -
