There has been a most serious outbreak of cholera-af the Presidency Hospital,. Calcutta, as the result of which many, European nurses, have died. Professor Baskine has since dis covered the comms bacilli in the dregs of a jug of milk found in the nurses' quarters but his -Investigations are not yet complete...

It appears that the first case of cholera brought into the General Hospital, was on the night of July 29 being Mr. Davies, an assistant · of Messra, Jessop and Co., who expired a few hours later. Next morning the disease appear. „ed amongst the nurses, but not amongst any of those who attended Mr. Davies, Mina C. May Cuminings was the first to show symptoms of the disease, Sho became {If when on duty' daring the early hours of 'July 30, and the WLS placed instantly under medical treatment in what are known as the Queen's Chambers. In spite of the utmost and every possible attention she died the same day, in about 8 hours after the at« tack.
