You will see that by the allocation of the disposable balance shown in the profit and loss account proposed by the directors for you to pass to-day, we intend to finally deal with the item under the beading of "Purchase of Trading Rights." This, I may say, was the consideration for obtaining the charter under which the company has been trading, and that it is now all written off may, I think, be con sidered as satisfactory. The amount of the debecture bond you will see is decreased by £500 since the last balance sheet. Since the figures were made up, as at Dec. 31 last, a fur ther sum of £500 has been paid off, which will be exhibited, in the accounts for the curreal

As announced by Reuter, the other day the Archaeological Department at Calcutta bare made an amazing discovery of a portion of the ashes of Gautama Buddha in the Buddhist Stupa, near Peshawar, exactly on the spot where the Chinese traveller, Hieun Tsang, sald they had been placed. According to the Times of Ceylon, the site was indicated in the Gist place by M. Foucher, a French savant who measured the distances indicated by Hisun Teang and pointed out two moɑnds half a milè from Peshawar City as almost certainly the exact spot where the ashes were buried,
M. Foucher convinced Mr. Marshall, the head of the Atchaslogical Department, and the latter oblained money from Goverment and proceeded to excavate.
