MONAY MARKET,
THE NEW RIVAL TO THE CABALT: CAMP IN- CANADA.
Messrs. Samuel Montagu and Co., writing from London, on June 17, state:-***
Again this week there was no external de mand for the £700,000 bar gold which came into the market, except the usual amount re- quired for India and the trade. The arrivals. therefore, may be expected to go into the Bauk of England at 771. 94. per ounce standard, after pissing through the rafiners' haude,
The following amounts were received by the Bank:-
June 10, L122.000, in bar gold. June 11, 153,000 in bar gold. Juzo 14, £17,000 in bar gold, £50,000 in sovereigos from Egypt and 45,000 in sovereigna from France, June 15 -£111,000 in bar gold and £5,000 in sovereigns from France, June 16, £274,000 in bar gold.
The following withdrawal was made:- June 10, £96,000 in sovereigns for South America.
The sett indux is £547,000 during the week.
ROMBAY STOCKS DOUBLED.
The sast, imparted by last week's purchases of silver for the Indian Bazaars, having disap- peared, the price drooped gradually to 240, on (bergth-be lowest quotation since April 26 last-and considerable purchases were made for China at the price...
Next day substantial bear covering set in, and as China was again a buyer at a slight ad- vance, the price rallied to 34 d.
Although this is the last week for shipment
to meet the July settlement in Bombay, there have been few fresh orders from India.'
Stocks in Bombay have more than doubled recently reaching a total of 10,500 bars; this "fact possibly accounts for the limited buying,
A large mooring basin is available alongside our own works for mooring vessels whilst that has taken place for the Indian bazaars in under repairs.

our market, but; if the south-west monsoon is good, this stock, though undoubtedly large, will no more than suffice for the 'up-country demand.
In our letter of jan. 7 last we referred to a new district in Canada which was hoped to rival the Cobalt camp. Failing the admirable rail facilities and the phenomenal suifice finds of the Cobalt district, tangible results in this new ore field cannot be expected to show so rapid-- ly but we hear that there is some prospect of optimism being justifled, as the area concerned is of vast exieni.“
13,000 tons of ore have been despatched from Cobalt this year, the quantity in May being ahead of all previous months
During the week about £45,000, has been shipped from San Francisco to the Far East.
The quotations to-day for cash and two. months 244d. are 1ƒtód, below those quoted in our last letter.
