SEA MONSTER.
NEW WEIRD tale,
Tacoma (Wash.), 4th June.
A real live sea serpent, sixty, or seventy fest long, with a beam between twelve and fourteen feet and an unknown draught, has been sighted twice by captains of the Blue Funnel bobrs this spring, once about sixty miles west of Nanshan, South Caps of Forman, and again ig the Straits of Formasa,
Many sea sospent stories have been told, but never before have they been told and authenti cated by two such prominent sea captalos as Captain Henry Loftus Allen, master of the Blue Funnel liner Ningchow, now in port load- ing for the Orient, and his follow (ficer, Capt. L. Harboard, master of the Sulfan, also of the Ocean Steamship Company.
Captain Harboard says: "It's no fake, but fair and square truth. I saw it, the chief officer saw it, the quarter-master and second steward, who bad just come on the bridge to speak to We saw it for about 15 minutes travelling
mo. south, gra
"When people talk about sea serpente we always ask them what brand of whisky they' drink. I have been at sea for over twenty years; I have been saillog China seas for the last fourteen years, but uever saw anything like this huge monster before.
"The length of the monster was about sixty feel, and from the top of its back to the water would be seventeen or eighteen feet. It was of great bulk. The body was light brown In colour and it had a horny back. Its tail and bead, which were massive, wate-slate colour.""
