OF NORTH BORNEO. 1. In making arrangements for the leasing" of the Farms for the next Farm period of 1910, Dr. W. E. Geil, who recently travelled the 1911 and 1912, the Government reserven to whole length of the great wall of China, uelf the right of vesting the Farms (as pro- vided in the Proclamations concerned as remarks that for a distance of 1,02 miles named in Schadalo appended) in any peri which the great wall traversos ib'e nue preson, by public or private calu at may dominating disease is goitre. He also adds thought fil there is one predominating bird along these tracts the magpin. Seeing the importance of animals in relation to human ailments, the coincidence here noted may be of interest Dr. Geil beard of, although he did not see, a race of Chinese pigmins reported to be an isolated group of wild mountain-dwellers.

I make no comment, but leave others to con- sider whether the magpie may not be a source of evil to others in Hoogkang than the soug birds, am, etc.,
