India become peculiarly interesting for this reason:If the Indian outlook is unfavourabla the advance is not likely to be maintained, for China will have to unload eventually" on • poor market-but if fedian 'prospects are favourable there is a fair chance that China surplus silver will be absorbed and the present higher level bo sustained, especially as bears, who, however, do not happen to be numerous, would have good reason to be anxious,
The high price of wheat in the world's mar- kets, is putting heart into the Punjab district, where a bumper barvest is anticipated.
We learn that, barring accidents, Karachi wheat exports this year may make a record- and may possibly reach 1 million tons be tween the months of May and August.
There are indications also that the worst is over as 10 Indian trade-Railway earnings are on the increase, and the mill industry is
·less congested
One result of the improved state of affairs is the better demand for Council Bills and | telegraphic transfers. The 80 lacs offered this week were allotted at 18. 3.31/31 and 13, 4d |respectively, vix : 1/32d, higher than last week's
rates.
Yesterday, the quotation was fixed at 24 7/8d, we bave to go back exactly to months to the 6th July, 1958, to fied so high a price.
In the afternoon, however, a re-action set in, and to-day the price is fixed at 21 5/8d,, for cash and two months-that is 1/4d, higher than the price quoted a week ago.
The Cobalt ore shipments this year amount to 9,000 100,
