SOLDIER'S SAD DEATH,
LOSES HIS LIFE WHILE BATHING, A very sad bathing fatality, the first, and, it to be hoped, the last, of the season, occurred last Wednesday afternoon, when Drummer Wooley, belonging, to The Buffs, lost bis life. while bathing in the harbour.
From what we have been able to gather, it would appear that the deceased drummer, afges with two other friends, in the same raginíént, had been boating near Shan-ki-wan/ Road. Finding the summer heat too strong, one of the soldiers proposed a dip, and the next mo ment, the deceased and another drummer named Spaskea borb jumped into the water for
spell of swimming. Shortly afterwards, Wooley cried for help. His comrade lost no time in proceeding to bis friend's rescue, Sparkes, however, could ant see the deceased. A few moments later, Sparkes felt someone tightly clutch at his foot. The drowning man held on in this fashion for some lula time but he gradually released his bold, presumably through exhaustion. Soon afterwards, the de ceased sank and since then nothing has been seen of his dead body,
Fylt is expected that the late drummer's dead body will in all probability be found floating in the water round about the vicinity whare the tragedy occurred,
