The annual sports promoted by the Lusitano Recreation Club were held yesterday afternoon at Happy Valley, when the weather was all that could be desired: There was a largo gathering of spectators present to witness the numerous events, among whom were the Rt. Rev. Bishop D. D. Pozzoni, Mr. J. J. Leitia, Consul for Portugal, and Mr. Leiria, and a number of officers from visiting Portugucie cruisen, who manifested a keen nterest in the afternoon's proceedings. The events were all keenly contested and it was refreshing to see the competitors Corage in friendly rivalry for the honours of the day, A feature of the afternoon was the tug-of- war contest for Portuguese sailors, which turned out a tough event, the representatives of the Patria eventually winning' from the men of the Vasco da Gama after a hard Lüssle. The other events were likewise inte- resting, all baving a large number of entries. During the afternoon, the 13th Rajputs Band under Bandmaster Coke played populer selec |tions of music, which wore much appreciated.
