A PASSENGER'S NARRATIVE.
From a Chinese passenger on board the res
cuing vessel our representative was able to gather a few more particular, although there was not much to add to the official report chronicled above. Our informant s.id:-). was a pissenger on board the Hot Tung bound from Kongmun for Hongkong. Shortly. after midnight last night when not far from The Brothers I was awakened from my peaceful slumbers by the shrill blasts of a steamer's whistle. I promptly made for the deck and descried through the dim lights of a bright night a vessel on the beach apparently in distress. The captain of our steamer turned ite Hot Tung's nose to wards the distresse i ressel, and soon we were close up to her. The His Tung's boris were quickly lowered and manned and promp ly brought alongside the disabled vessel, which was discovered to be the ss. Saw Cheung,
"From inquiries ie was learnt that, while on the voyage from Canton to Hongkong, the had the misfortune of breaking her tail shaft and water began to rush into the hold through the sam post. The steamer's pumps were set going, but as their size failed to cope with the volume of water which poured in, Capt. McGinty conceived the idea of beaching his vessel, This he did on the sandy beach of Castle Feak." Na
