Among the contributory causes for this wa would draw attention to a new source of strength, bately, a demand for Continental coinage, which, lo a previous letter, we had put forward as a hopeful feature for the future. Over tanjoto has been shipped to Germany of late, chiefly for currency purposes, though little ar bone for the country tlf: and there are Indications that several Continental Go- vernments are on the paint of coining silver,- Austria among the number.

In the latter case, the exigencias of trade call foran increase of monetary facilitiesand an issue of 10 Kronen notes is proposed. Also, on ins crease of small coin amongst which a new die, viz: two Kronen plece, will be minted. For the purpose of providing these, coins, however, it is dat likely that much silver will have to be bought, as,the Government will probably avail themselves first of the existing stock oder its control.

FAVOURABLE EFFECT.

There is at the present time less inclination" to postpone 'bear sales as they fail due, and the closing of these without the counter-balance of renewed "bear anles for two months' de- livery has not beea without some favourable effect on the undertone.

Moreover, we are now at a parlad when pos [244sible requirements for the next Bombay settic ment steamer must be taken into consideration Oathe other hand, the Chias exchange show less strength and any increase of demand would possibly be met by re-sales from that quarter,

The quotations to-day for casti (248.) and for two months (2324) are 3/16d, higher than those of a week ago.
