With a view to invite suggestions from the general public in aid of the effective prohibi tion of opium-smaking, the Canton Govern meni Anti-Opium Bureau has issued a pro- clamation, in which the people are requested to give information,, if Decessary, as to any land being privately held under the plantation of poppy; any omission made by any opium sellers in their monthly report of the amount of opium sold; any opium dens being still pri vately opened in the city; any officials being found still in the babit of opium-smoking; any morphic compounded in the nati-opium pills sold by any of the manufacturers and whatever that may be deemed to be of help to the Bureau in the prohibition of opiam, etc. A. special box has been placed at the door of the Bureau's Office to receive petitions.

Chang Chib Tung, Superintendent General of the Canton Hankow Railway, a telegram, in which Total Wong was instracied to carry out the following orders To, have copies of all documeats, books, papers, etc., complete in the offices of the Company at Canton since the redemption of the concession, and have them made out for separate records; to make out a play showing it detail how many is of the line were built before, and how many after, the redemption of the con. cession, how many of them have been surveyed and how many have not, together with a com- plete list of the staff of the company; to report in detail on the total amount collected on account. of thefirstand second calls on shares, Budto give the names of all shareholders; to report the total amount of expenditure, the amount of deposits and the money in hand, to report the proceeds collected from passengers and on goods together with the petty cash account, Total Wong was instructed to carry out these orders forthwith, and, when completed, to report in every parti cular to H.E Chang Chih-tung for his perusal. fnotai Wong, on receipt of these telegraphic instructions, notified the Board of Directors of the Capton-Bankow Railway Company.
