THE OPIUM COMMISSION.

NINTH SESSION.

The ninth session of the Commission opened a1.10.30 am on 19th fast, with a renewal o the discussion on Mr. Tang Kuo-an's propósi tion, that a Committee should be appointed to consider the medical aspects of the opium question, and the best means of curing the- oplum habit without recourse to the actual drug or its derivatives,, ****

The Rt. Hon. Sir Cecil Clementi Smith expressed sympathy with the object which Mr. Tang bad is 'view, and stated thay he was not opposed to any practical inquiry into the aubject; but he considered that the Commis sion did not possess amongst its members a sufficient number of scientific men to form a committee of the kind suggested by My Tang and the investigation from a medical point" "of view of anti-aplum remedies and of the pro 36perties and effects of opium and its products should be recommended by each Delegation to its own Government.
