COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT. Having spoken on historical facts connec'ed with Australia, Mr. Suttor, before proceeding to, dwell on the Mother State, remarked bow pleased he was to ses bis valued friend Mr. J. M. Sinclair, the representative of the great State of Victoria, present, and expressed the hope that he would come forward at some, future date and lecture en the Slate Hje so well and favourably represented in the. Een (Ap. plause). New South Wales was not only the ---7- richest country in the British Empire, per head of the population, but the world might also be included. Her commercexaprosented betwee 40 and 55 per cent, of the total commerce of the Commonweallb. During the last few years not only bad, ber commercs doubled, but, for the year ended 1957, it equalled nearly £84,000,000, of which exports, the actual pro duction of the soil, equalled nearly £49,000,000 and imports nearly £39,000,000. For, ibe fine ancial year ended June 30, last, the surplus revenue over and above internal and external requirements amounted to about £1,670,000.
