Exact- ly how Captain Wagermane met his death is not known and perhaps never will be known. for no one saw him disappear over the vessel's side. It is pleasant to know that no loss of life has occurred as the result of the collision. la connection with the collision between a cargo-boat and the steam-launch Cherub, which we were first to report us taking place in the harbour last Muaday afternoon, more definite paniculars have been supplied to the police by the master of the ill-fated cargo-boat.
In a statement made to the police at Tsim tassui Inter in the day, he stated that the nume ber of his boat was 1,300. At about two o'clock on Monday afternoo, after loading about eighty tons of coal belonging to the Mitsui Bussan Kaisha, he set aril frorn Wanchai, taking his course for the middle harbour where he was to discharge. About half an hour later he was struck by the Cherub amidships and the junk hasled over, throwing the crew into the water. No lives were lost, no doubt due to the promet arrival of assistance.
The junk span foundered; but was later for ed and beached off Yaumati.." The loss of the junk and personal effects of crew, excluding the cargo of coal, is estimated's $1,500.
