A KIAOCHAU dispatch to the Asahi reports that the German Government has approved an Increase in the emoluments of the German Minister and the secretaries and interpreters in the German Legation in Peking. The German Government has decided to establish aconsulate Harbin and has approved an appropriation of *17,500 marks for the cost of the re-construction of the Commolate buildings at Tentaio and Cheloo.

THE cook, Wong Teb, who, on Saturday, was charged with stealing Stoo worth of property from his master-Mr. A. W. Home flour is now selling at a price which eliminates profit, in view of the quotation for wheat, so that it is not possible further to lower the price. The stock of American flour, on the other hand, is becoming smaller.

ME, G. A. Hancock, a schoolmaster, of 5, Bon- ham Strand, was charged in the Police Court, last Monday, with assaulting a chair crolie on Sunday, causing grievous bodily harm. It was stated that defendant discharged the chair he had hired near Dowsington Canal, paying the bead coolie more than the legal fare. The coolie demanded more, and as defendant was about to enter a tramcar he was seized by the arm by the coolie. Turning round sharply de- fendant was alleged to have struck the coolie on -the head with his stick, causing a gash over an inch long, The man was taken to hospital. Cn defendant agreeing to compensate the coolie the case was withdrawn. The coolie was given $14.
