on record, the rock in Kobe at the end of the previous month reaching 119,000 bales, also an unparalleled figure, Stacks of cotton yarn congested the Osaka market to the extent of 37,000 Japanese bales at the end of January last, when stocks in Kobo amounted to 29,000 Japanese bales. Such larga stocks have never Accumulated at one time in either Osaka or Koba in previous years. Stocks of raw cotton bave, since gradually decreased, the stockin Osaka declining to 12,000 bales at the end of last month (September) and that in Kobe to 50,000 bales, the lowest figurea seän för sama time past, Stocks of cotton yarn have also shown a marked decrease in consequence of „the mossures taken to encourage the export and also of the restriction put on the output of yarn by spinning companies. At the end of last month the stuck in Osaka was not more that 4,896 bales, a decline to one-sixth of the quantity at the end January last and a quarter of the amount at the corresponding period of last year. A proportionate dectesap was shown ia Koba. A similar decrease is shown in the amount of money, advanced in Osaka on raw, cotton and cotton yarn. At the und of March' the money advanced on raw cotton stood at about, V11,480,000, which_dropped_to_About_ -Y6,000,000 at the end of last month, the money- advanced on cotton yare, which amounted to abant V3,500,000 in July or August last year, falling to about Ya,030,000.
