EXPERTA' VISIT TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES.

Rangoon, September. II, The Rangoon Gosette publishes a report of an, Interesting interview with two Japanese econ. amicexperts who were sent to Europe, America, India and Burma to examine and study various systems and conditions of agricultural practice and to ascertain whether scope exists for expansion of trade between: Japan and foreign countries. It is not long ago that Professor S. Kikkawa, of the Imperial College of Agriculture, Tokio, paid Burma a visit, in the course of his lengthy tour through India to study agricultural conditions... His Burma tour was with the object of collecting specimens of all the local varieties of paddy and milled rice, with a view to study ing the several species and ascertaining what

mineral oils and though both very extensive-scale, and cotton scale, are produced to Japan, thu dependent on Rangoon for sepplies of articles of commerce. Though ihs, tradi tween Burma and Japan was so extensive the number and toonage of JapaneIS calling at Rangoon was increasing. 18 was strange that Japan had no Consular ma- presentative anywhere in Burma to look after. er iptarents his conacisfactory state of affairs is engaging the attention of the Gover ment on the representations of the trading community of Japan and in the near future we might hope to see Consul for japan Rangoon.

Mr. Yashida'next visited Ahmedabad, Agra, Delhi and Calcutta where he was joined by Mr. Audo who had proceeded from Bombay to visit Patos, Darjeeling and the Imperial Agricultural Institute at Fusa.

In Calcutta, both gentlemen were detained for 25 days on account of illness and this delay affected their Burma tour somewhat. They arrived in Rangoon on the 7th instant and left for Singapore. They go on to Bangkok, where they intend spending a week to inspect the tin mines at Paket and other centres. From Bangkok they will visit Saigon when they make a short stay before sailing for Hongkong and then a far Kobe and Yokohama which port they reach early in N.vember, in Lime to permit Mr. Yashida belor present st Takio for the Imperial Diet, which opens to wards the end of that month..

He was surprised, however, that Burma, with all her wealth of paddy, cotton, etc., has only two small agricultural institutions, one at Mandalay and the other at Hmawbi and only some three ́ or four agricultural experts. He remarked that it was strange that the lodisa Government has only now awakened to its responsibi iities in aiding and extending the assi
