"by a Japanese gendarme at Peking, which are. seat by the correspondent of the dink?, it may appears that the Captain was engaged a fow years ago as a teacher to the Choose Military College at Paotiog-fu, but was recalled by the Japanese Government on account of miscon duct and placed on the retired list. In June last year he arrived in Poking with certain documents alleged to relate to Japanese War secrats. At this time he was dirgulfed 'as a Chinese, assuming the Chinese name of Chang Su-tze, and the surname of Hok Ling, of Kiangsa. Moreover, he was lodging at the house of a Chiness officer pamed Ting King--Them it is alleged, he was gíring in- structions in military science to a class of some ten Chiasso officers, and betraying, the War setzens of japan, being paid at very high rates. His sacret, says the Arahi correspondent, was detected by the Japanese gendarmes stationed in Poking as a Logation guard.” On the 1st instant gendarmes were sent to bring him to the Legation, whereupon he drew a sword and offered resistance, with the result_alroady stated. They urge that, as a measure of retaliation, the Chinese authorities should, without giving notice to the Japanese Governmeal, arrest Chinese revuljonittu who are taking shelter in Japan.
