JAPANS INVITATION TO AMERICA.
(#8th August,) According to American exchanges; an invitation has been extended for the Seattle Chamber of Commerce to send a delegation of Seattle businessmen to Tokyo in Septem ber as the guests of the united Chamber of Commerce of the eight principal Japanese. cities. Specially prepared invitations for the Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles Chambers of Commerce are now on their way across the Pacific. The plan to invite American businesmen to visit Japan during the siny of the battleship fleet in Japancio waters was first advocated by officers of the Mikado's Cavernment. The commer. cial bodies in the cight principal Japanese cities were asked to co-operate, and it is in their names that the invitation is, extended, although it is to be backed by the Imperial Government. Advices 'from the Japanese Government to the consula siste that they ale to assist the commercial bodies in every way. The invitations will request that the delegations of business men from the four leading Pacific coast. cities will be guests of the Japanese business men for a period of three weeks, while the battleship fleet is in Japanese waters. The Japanese plan to entertain at least 100 American business men, and Seattle will be asked to furnish its quota. The trip across the Pacific will he made at the expense of the American busi. ness men, but after they assemble - in' Japan the last of Septeniber they will be entertained at the expense of the Japanese. "The plan is to give an opportunity for mutual under standing." said Consul Tanaka of Sentile when interviewed. The trade between these four cities and Japan is enormous, Such a trip as this, with visits to Japan's prominent industrial and commercial centres, will be of great good in hoth Japan and America. Such trips at intervals would aid in establishing belter trade relations between the two countries: A return tip, say during the exposition, in ropo, would be of advan- As soon as tage in this connection. the invitation arrives, which my advices indicate will be in a few days, I shall "extend it 10 the Chamber of Com- merce."
