AMERICAN TRADEMARKS IN JAPAN.

America has taken time by the forelock in negotiating a treaty with Japan on the ques- tion of trade-marks. By this time our allies must be considerably tired of the inngendoes which have been freely submitted regarding infringement of international trade-marks, and the new arrangement with the United States marks a step in advance. The new treaty has reference to trade marks in China and Korea, or at least to those territories over which Japan has actual or nominal control. The treaty having reference to Korea scis forth that the Japanese Government shall cause to be

enforced there the laws and re- gulations relative to invention's, designs, trade-marks and copyrights similar to those at present existing in Japan. These laws and regulations are to be applicable to American citizens in Korea equally as to Japanese and Korean subjects, and the U.S: Government engages that in case of the in- fringement by American citizens of copy rights, trademarks, or designs, such citizens shall be under the exclusive jurisdiction of SOME years ago the Victoria University of the Japanese Court in Korea.
