AMERICAN FORTUNE FOR IRISH HARNESS« MAKER

A property believed to be worth £305,000 is to come to Mr Edward Corentan, a Doblig; harmoss-maker, by the decision of the Supreme Court of Appeal in Washington, 17.5.A that he is the only heir to the estate of the late John Sullivan, of Seattle.net

Mr. C... O'Neill, solicitor, Dublia, who has Mayor Corcoran, on being seen yeters by our Dublin correspondent, contradicted" the report that had been published stating that the property had been divided between Mr. Corcoran and a Mra. Honpat Callaghan, of Cork. Mrs. Callaghan, he says, died about four years ago, sad, not having made a will, ber money of the, estate goes to Mr. Corcoran, who thus gets the entire property, subject to lawyers' claims,,

"Mr. O'Neill alto' ridicules the idea that the property is only worth £150,000. When he was in the State of Washington Sve years ago In connection with the case, be inspected the property, and has reason to believe that the value is more like £300,000. It is, he points out, an interesting, fact that during the litiga tion the property' (which consists chiefly of blocks of buildings and ground rents in the principal streets of the city of Seattle), has in- creased enormously in value." ROMANCE OF A FORTUNE. John Sullivan, whose property has been the settled in Seattle, built up a large fortune, and created what has come to be known as the Sullivan building in that city, with" 160 acres of land attached.

There were a large number of claimants, and an olement of romance was introduced when on 8 March, 1931, Marie Carrau, a French tutor of languages, filed a nuncupative or verbal will alleged to have been made by deceased.

Hor stary, which was supported by her sister and brother-in-law, shed an interesting light o Sullivan's character. A thrifty Irishman, grown rich through judicious investment, he gave bimself lialo time to devote to the more grace- ful 'accomplishments of life. When he had amassed his fortune, bawever, he sought to learn French;, and through an arrangement made with the Carraus, came to live at their home as a boarder, and studied French under Marie's tuition.

THE STORY OF A WILL.

Sullivan became greatly attached to his tutor, and one night sent for her and her sister and. brother-in-law. Sitting in front of the fire in the Carrau bome, he told Marie, in the presence
