You are no doubt all perfectly aware of the state of depression and stagnation in all branches of trade, both import and export, that has been experienced in Shanghal during the past year and you will therefore not be surprised to lear that our business has been adversely affected by the general falling off in the movement of goods and produce. Owing to this cause our revenue shows the very serious decrease of about 71% 96,500 on that of 1906, or 20 per cent on our gross receipts, but while this is mainly unsatisfactory I am able to assure you that it is not owing to opposition that our receipts are less, but solely to the falling off in the trade of the porti indeed tis with pleasure I can state that during the year we have regained constituents, who owing to circumstances it is not necessary to detail had. left us a year or two ago.
