Mr. Winston Churchill's visit to Úganda and the Soudan bas led to a renewed con- alderation of various projects for improving the existing means of communication between the the Nile, and Uganda. · Mail and passenger steamers belonging to the Soudan Government already ply between Khartoum (now within seven days of London) and Gondokoro, distance, 'in a straight line, of 1,000 miles. At Gozdekoro, which in Just five degrees north of the Equator, begin selles of rapids which effectually birck navigation for a distance (by road) of ra miles. Thence, from a spot called Nimuli, the Nile is again navigable right up to Albert Nyanza. The route now used by the Uganda Government for sending mails to Gondokoro takes advantage of this navigable stretch.
