•BHIKP PERISH IN THOUSANDS, The following from the Sydney D. T. of the latest avaliable date, gives an account of one of the several disastrous busli fires which were recently reported by telegram:
Melbourne (fan, 21) — bush fire of great magnitude, having a face of 40 miles, is now raging in the Edenhope district. It has been baring for four'days, and each day it has been increasing in power. It started on KadBook Estate, about 12 miles from Edenhope, and is supposed to have originated at a swagman's Ats. The flames yesterday, came within five miles of Edenhope, and penetrated along the Glong, River-to-Dergholm, about 30 miles away... Kadnook Estate was saved with diff- culty, and several settlers lost all the grass in their paddocks and in some instances their akads. In Powar's Creek district à clean sweep was made. All the sheds, sheep dips etc. were destroyed. Tho Are raged through the scrub to Talingower Estate, and 20 man worked hard for six hours to save the homestead stacks. The flames burst through the garden and buret up to the verandah before they were overcome by beaters. Some of the verandah posts were on fire. A parly of fra-fighters, caught in the scrub, had to turn pumps on themselves and their horses to escape from the beat. Canal Estate was a great danger when the last buf- letin arrived. It is impossible now to reach it to
