CANTON'S CURRENCY.

While the Hongkong Government is con sidering the best course to pursue to reform the subsidiary coinage of the Colony, the Viceroy of Canton has been engaged in an inquiry and deliberations over the proposal, emanating from the Central Government, to alter the standard coin of the Southern Pro vince from the dollar to the taol. It will be recalled that a departmental committee was appointed by H.E. Viceroy Chang Jen-chup to consider the proposal of the authoritics of the Imperial Mlot at Peking, who issued instructions to the different mints in the various provinces throughout the Empire, to inquire into and report on the feasibility of the proposed change of the coinage to the standard of a tael and its og fractional parts instead of the dollar standard, After some deliberation, we are informed, from Canton, to day, that the officials of the Canton branch of the Imperial Mint have reported that, under present circumstances, it was found that the system of coinage now obtained within the Province in the most suitable to the general public, and that no change in the standard was considered necessary.
