uf fanatic, songs, shrieked, and yelled by the tormentors to drawn her crits. Every.boue in her arms and legs was broken, her neck twisted until it would not support her head, and her, flesh was purple with abrasions.

The sect of Pathamites was founded about a year ago by Charles F: Parhain, and numbers about 200 persons. Its members originally be longed to Dowie's church, and they believe in the gift of tongues, and especially in diabolica! possession. It is their theory that sickness is no evidence of the possession of the body by

evil spirits.

The condition of Mrs. Greenhalgh convinced her son and daughter, and the three persons arrested with them, that she must be possessed of the devil, and they determined to exorcise the evil spirit. The five knelt by the bedside, and, after prayer, commenced their work. The army' of Mrs. Greenhalgh, stiffened by rheumatism, were jerked and twisted about in order that the devil might be driven out. The cries of the ed woman were considered to be those of za evil spirit, and were greeted with triumphant shouts. After a course of the violent treatment, Mrs. Greenbaulgh not only became so weak that 'she could not use her limbs, but became incapable of making any motion. Then her neck was twisted, and for some time this treatment was képt up.

Walter Greenbaugh testified at the | Coroner's inquest that Mitchell and his wife recently had a vision," in which Mitchell was ordered to quit work and devote his time to casting out demons from the sick. Young Greenbaulgh declared that his mother's consent was obtained before the treatment was commenced. He declared that hypnotic passes were made before his mother's face, and then followed the muscular force, which he said was strongly resisted by the "demon." Mrs. Smith pastila the treatment, according to the testimony before the Coroner's jury, consisted in raising Mrs. Greenhalgh's head and holding her white Mitchell and his wife attempted to straighten the woman's limbs, which had been twisted by years of raeumatism.

Greschaulgh broke down and cried as he told history. He declared that for some time his mother bore the treatment bravely, but at last the agony became so great that she could] not restrain herself and she shrieked, "Oh, Lord; help me 1" & number of times. Accord ing to Grecopaulgh, Mitchell declared that her cries must not be heard by outsiders, and he put his hand across her month to smother them.

After that, according to Groenhaufgh, Mrs. **Yesur- Bmith became the leader in a rection scele," In this efforts were made to restore the dead woman to life. When these had falled the Announcement of her death was made. This case is being fully investigated by the authorities of Lake country, in which Zion City is situated.

"Mitchell took ber by the hand, the son testified, "sad pulled her arm away from her body. She screamed. Oh, she screamed ferribly. I jumped forward, Mitchell beld mo back and put his hand over her mouth and stopped her cries. He said, 'Of course, I shall not bust you. Those cries are not her cries. That is the screaming of the demons and of the devils. She is all right!

Greeshaugh told of movements like those of a bypnotist which Mitchell made above the prostrate woman, and continued: "Mitchell and bis wife again drew or the body. They took her arms and drew them out straight There was a crackling sound, I found after ward that they broke the bones. They did the same with herlegs. They pulled at her head. They. pinched and worked with her flesh. She groun ed and cried out. Then mother, soomed to become quiet. She looked at me. She said,

I was in hall; I am in heaven now. I thought

she meant she was getting better. I believed God was helping her. When she said that they started work with renewed vigour.

My father was not allowed in-the room doring the treatment," Greenbaolgk went on ** Man. {~ Itchell told him that my mother was sleeping and that she would eat supper with p that night. When she failed to appear, my father became worried and wanted to go to the room. In the evening I began to realise that my mother was dead.
