St. Paul's the wind was behind the serosint, but on reaching the Cathedral her course wa changed, and she gracefully circled round the dome. After completing this revolution the nirship sailed slowly, in a westerly direction, against the wind, with the Union Jack flutter- ing from her stars.

When the airship was over the War Office manguvres were carried out, and traffic in the Streets of the West-end from which the airship could be observed was almost brought to a standstill. Many roof, were occupied, and glasses were levelled at the vessel, from all directions.

A SURPRISE FOR THE WAR OFFICE.

The visit of the airship camne somewhat as a surprise to the authorities at the War Office, al- though it was known that it was in-contempla lion and might occur any day. Nearly all the staff of the War Office Lurned out to, wita ess its flight, aimong the spectators being Sir Edward Ward, Sir William Nicholson, General Hadden, and Sir Charles Douglas, all members of the Army Council. They watched its movemeals with the greatest interest. The airship came low enough for the occupants to be discerned, and through a glass it was possible to see some thing of the working of the mechanism,

After making the circuit of St. Paul's the air- ship.steered southwards and passed over a con- siderable portion of South London, where it rose to a considerable height. It then gradual ly moved round westwards: The airship also passed over Buckingham Palace and its grounds, and manœuvred above the lawn on which the King occasionally hold 1 reviews.

It is stated that the trip was a rehearsal of the, visit to be paid on October 14, when his Majesty will inspect the acfostal.
