The Japanese Navy will be increased by two farge and powerful banidships within a few year. One has been ordered to be bullt at Yokosuka and the oiler at Kure. The ship ordered from Yokosuka will be of 20,800 tons, 20,000 barse power, with a speed of so knots, her arcisment consisting of 10-124inch, 1215-cm, quick-firing and 24 27 mm. gas, foot submarged torpedo-tabts and four aliove water. The cost is estimated at inte over Y:9,000,000. This vessel will surpass in power the British Dreadnought, which is now regarded as the s rongest warship afinat: The Japanese battleship will have ten z-inch guas against six on the Dreadnought, and will be 'n speedier vessel. The new battleship will be stated on early next year upon the completion of heavy, crane, which is now being constructed on the slip on which the Sufimma was built.

That Hoeck had a personal acquaintance with the youthful Emperor of China was well known among certain financiers. It was known to them also that he had met the Empress and dined with her, and that the thought well of him. 11, was an established fact also that this remark- áble soldier by fortune was on intimate terms with many of the most influential men in the Chinese Empire early in 1933 just after he arrived in China with a consignment of goods from the American Association of Manufactur ers, and spent much time with him from the moment he was presented to him. According to his own statement he and the Emperor became intimate friends, and the ostensible `ruler readily agreed to co-operate in a scheme proposed by Boeck, granting concessions of almost inestimable value to Americans.
