In view of the keen interest taken by the ex-Governor of Hongkong, Sir Matthew Nathan, in the construction of the line, with which his Excellency, has so intimately associated him self, it will be convenient te here record-ths reurets falt at his departure. The considerable area of new ground created as the result of the Priya 'extension has new been practically, built i ver, only one or two icts still remaining vacant. Praya land that pertained to the bank, generously kept at open space for, the benefit of the public. Flanking this land on the other 'side of the road' and on the award side of the. City Hall in the handsome building that will do duty, when completed, as the badly wanted pew Law Courts. This was the site' suggested by a strong focal committee in 1895 As the best position for the new Post Office. The new building for that purpose immediately adjoining the wharf seems to be, however, a better solution, as regards position.

The new Naval Yard works are on the point of completion by the contractors; and could be turned over in a vary few months if the Admiralty would definitely m'ke up their minds as to some of the detail, le' is a considerable work, and has meant the reclamation of some 70 acres, including the practical enclosing of 9 acres of bost basin where there is a depth of 10 ft. and shears fitted for lifting weights on board ves sels repairing. There are four shears to lif 20 lone each, and one of the capacity of yo tobi, The new deck from which the outer constructios dam has not yet been removed is a fine piece of granite faced work with cement foundations of 12 ft to 15 ft. The walls are granite faced. There, in a depth to 33 ft. on the approaching channel and entrance to the dock, which would be suficient to take lo's Dreadnought. Efficient pumping appliances are being now erected, whilst the power hours, machine and engineers' shops, boat-bouse, foundry and stores bouses are all well uns der way. It is a fine place of work, and
