The union of employer of the Commercial Cable Company has for some time past enter tained a grievance against the Company on the score of unfair discrimination against individual employés in the matter of pay and promotion, and recently submitted certain proposals to headquarters for fairer treatment. So far, how- ever, these representations, have been, ignored, and at a late mesting of the committee of em ployds it was resolved to sanction a strike to compel acquiescence. It is expected, however, that the movement will not become general and that it will be confined to the Atlantic sea board stations. Hopes are also entertained that a compromise will be effected before the 149 strike assumes really serious proportiona.
