Lid, received news, via Trincomalie, that the Lady Pavelock stranded,-at-Kalkudah, on Sunday,
It seems that when the cyclone commenced, Captain Whitley, seeing the serious state of the weather, wisely decided to run the steamer ashore, to avoid loss of life, and his ship now lies firmly embedded on a sandbauk, some 40 feet away from deep water,

The famous Father Damien, whose devotion to the lepers exited on Mojokel, one of the Hawalian Islands, cost him his life, built a little church for his suffering people. He and the priests who followed him interested the lepers in the Catholic faith, so that Father Damien's church at last became inadequate, and it was replaced by a larger edifice coatleg more than $10,000 contributed by thousands of Catholics,
