Shipping Reports,
past your have been circulated for the neck sary number of days and 1 have no doubt. you will agree to take them as rend. There is very Hitle for me to add to what is mention: ed in the report. If you will look at the Working Account you will see that the result of the year's operations is that we have a' balance of Tls. 19713 67 to place to our credit. It has been our policy for some years, past to write off any small balance on the Profit and Loss Account to Depreciation Account and in this way wa have reduced, the value of our buildings and furniture to something very small as compared with their original cost. This year from the profit at our disposal we propose to write off from buildings 'Tis 2,379.21 and from furniture Tis, 184.23. The fact that we have not been able to present, you with a more favourable account I think arises from the fact that the British Govern ment does not fake any great interest in this outlying post of the British Empire. If the Government had taken anything like the in- terest in this place that the Geiman Govern. ment taken in Kiaochou and Tsingtao we should have been now in a very flourishing condition, but it is beyond our power to get them to take any futerest in this outlying station. We bave also still this amount of Tis, 3,40 which we claim from the British Govern- ment for the rent of bungalows which we were prevented from occupying on account of the orer troubles. If you look at the Balance you will see that we have the sum of Tis. vested in debentures which bring us ery year and we have Tle. 2,433 in ingkong & Shanghai Bank, We this latter amount because rn made out we have bad of our bungalows Jolture contained in Buned for $5,000 and
not our intention
it is in an unfavour. ent of the insurance very short time, we A fair som in another liible by the end of
i will be desirable to and make a return to of a portion of their ay that this will be done, as the directors have in their ad, the Government later on wake portance of keeping Weibaiwei 'as dependeccy there will be no doubt arge scope for the development of our property and, while we may not be in such a flourishlog condition as the Shanghai Land. Investment Company is in, yet we should be in a Bourish ing condition. I do not think there is anything else for me to eny, but if any shareholder has any questions he would like to put 1 shall be pleased to answer him.
There being no questions the following resolution as put and carried unanimously:- That the report and accounts be accepted and passed.
This concluded the business of the meeting.
