for the preceding ax mo price of the Bonds will be face value. Tha per cent in May and November, 1994, at London and New York may be tendered in payment of the subscription for the new Bonds. In such cases the 6 per cent. Bonds will be accept- od at face valus. A notification has been issued by the Finance Department in Tokle, stating that the 6 per cent. Bonds to the amount of £22,000,000, in English currency Issued in May and November, 1904, will be redeemed on September foth next, and the holders of the Bonds will be paid the amount represented by the Bonds, together with interest at the rate of 6 per cent, per an num up to the date on which the Bonds are redeemed. Holders of Bonds are requested to present them to the branch office of the Special Bank in London, and the agency of the same bank in New York, before pay ment falls due.. The Japan Chronicle learns from vernacular contemporaries that the issue of the new Bonds has been under- taken in London by the Specie Bank, Hong- kong and Shanghai Bank; and Parr's Bank, and in Paris by the Rothschilds. The commission receivable by the syndicate is 4 per cent, and the actual amount receivable by the Government is £95, By the con version of the 6 percent. Bonds, says our Kobe contemporary, the Japanese Government will save Y1,660,000 per annum in interest. The principal motive which has prompted the Government to hasten the issue of these. Bonds, even by raising the rate of in- terest from 4 to 5 per cent. (4 per cent. was originally fixed in the Imperial Ordinance | when the issue of the Boads to the amount
of £50,000,000 the year before last for the conversion of the 6 per cent. Bonds was aut thorised) is the rapid approach of the time fixed for the redemption or conversion of many Bonds issued in connection with the war, and it has therefore become necessary for the Government to convert the 6 per cent, Bonds without delay. -
