CONSUMPTIONEN

Willett & Gray, in their annual sugar raviaw, figure the average price of centrifugals for 1906 at 3.686 cunts a pound, against 4.278 Cents in 1905, 3.974 Cants in 1904, 372 cents in 1903, 3.542.cents in 1902, 4:017 conte in 1911, 4566 cents in 1900, 4-419 cents in 1859 and 4.335 cents in 1898. The average for ten years is 4 cents, daty paid, but during this period duties varied considerably.

The average price of granulated in 1905 was 4.515 cents a pound; against 5.256 cents. in 1905, 4.772 cents in 1904, 4.638 cents in 1903, 4455 cents in 1902, 15.050 cents in 1901, 5.32 cents in 1900 and 4.919 cents in 1899.

The average difference between raw and re- fired in 1906 was 819 cent a pound, against .978 cept in 1905 and 798 cent in 1904. The average price of granulated for ten years is 4.84 cents per pound. The average difference, be- tween raw and refined for ten years is .84 cent per pound.

The 'refining capacity is alightly increased over that of 1905 and is more than suficient to supply the consumption.

The highest price for granulated sugar since July, 1897, is 6 cents per pound, on March 1, 1905, and the lowest, 4.21 cents per pound, io November, 1901.

Willett & Gray have prepared the following statistics to show the progress made by the beet-sugar industry in the United States during the past fifteen years. The production stated for the present searca (1906-07) is necessarily estimated as some factories have not yet cam- pleted their run-
