THE JAPANESE SHIPPING COMBINE.

Among the numberless fresh.undertakinga springing up in all parts of the country, writes the japan Chronicle editorially, none is of more general interest and importance than the Nip pan Kiten Kaisba, the long talked of steam ship combine, preliminary arrangements for the formation of which are said to be pow almost complete. The general public of Japan appears to be showing great interest in the company and its prospects; but although the combine will be a large concern with a capital of Y 20,000,000 it will not be neces sary to place large number of shares on the market for subscription. The reason for this is that one half of the capital is to be subscribed by the ship-owners who join in the company, while the greater part of the remain. ing Yoco,000 will be taken up by the promotert, supporters, and others who are concerned in the scheme. As evidencing the public: interest in the undertaking, it is of interest to note that already applications in advance for 300,000 shares have been received 'from persons in all stations of file and pot directly interested in the shipping industry. The enterprise being more or less of a national character, it is stated to be the desire of the promoters that as many shares as possible should be distributed amongst the outside public. --------
