I know only too well that some physicians Derawongse, Ger. 4., 1,057, T. V. Bruhn, Mansang Br 13, 1,644, R. Houghton, 15th Sydney, Hobart, Launceston, New Zealand, dg, Fre
and surgeons have contentedly used prepara tions supplied them and allowed to become old, have obtained no resulte, and here con demned the whole thing. Trypsio, so-called, which will not digest dead white of egg in a test tube, will scarcely digest a living cancer cell.
I am strongly of opinion that, patil methods of preparing the ferment are perfected, a small portion of every injection should be reserved, and its digestive power in vitro tested. I am also of opinion that cases of failure in which the activity of the ferment has not been con. tinuously tested, as any one may do without trouble or expense, will be of no significance whatever.
THE EXPERIMENTS AT THE TEMPERANCE. Patting aside the Yresh experiments that are being made at the Middlesex and those that are about to be made at the London Hospital the most interesting work in the treatment of cancer by trypsin that has yet come under my notice, and the most valuable to the present to discussion, is that which has been; and is be ing, done at the London Temperace Hospital.

"Yes," he replied, "I have corresponded with him frequently on the subject. He is very sanguine and hopeful, although he does not wish toy anyibing until there is definite 5 proof of the curative power of his discovery 5 The attitude of the medical profession
that time comes must be, and ought to be, I think, one of philosophic doubt, because a great deal of harm can be done if people think 4 they can be cured by certain remedies before their valua has been thoroughly tested on a gbroad scale. And it would be a great pily if the present discussion were to lead persons to suppose that trypsin is certainly a remedy, It is entirely experimental, and whether it is 16 going to be satisfactory we do not yet know."
