Canton, sth December. The authorities have decided to plant trees on each side of the newly formed roads. A Chinese merchant has sent in the following suggestions on the matter, That he is willing to offer a royalty of two thousand taele, if he is granted, the, ale privilere to look after and plant olive trees along the roads and that at the end of three years, he is willing to pay an annual royalty of five hundred dollars.'

The next witness examined was the Chinese compradore of Mesirs Comics & Co, Kobe, named Lu Si-yen. Witness was unable to peak Japanese sufficiently to give evidence, but made his statement through the interpreter of the Chinese Consulate. He stated that he had never served as a compradore of any bank, and so he knew nothing of the business of a bank compradore.
The Court discharged the witness, and call- ed in a Chinese accountant in the Kobs branch of the Chartered Bank, named Pan Hong-chen. Witness slated that he was of the same, game as the accused, but was no relation.
