CANNIBAL KING OF ANNAM.

Marseilles, Cet. 17.

Mail advices which reached here to-day from Indo-China brought another and mo e revolting story of the doings of King *hanh. Thai of Aouam, showing that he went to the extent of cannibalism, Áfter killing one of his wives he caused the body to be cooked and marved for dinner, forcing his entourage to 'ont it under pain of death.

}

Some of the King's wives were bound and burned with burning oil and subjected to other cruelties, while naked women 'were thrown into The cages with the bearls, where they were levoured before the eyes of the King. Finally the French authorities stepped in and made a prisoner of Thanh-Thai, who has been adjudged insane by Dr. Dumas of the Franch Colonial Staf

All these things have duly happened at prog. nosticated in that costly, magafiae, with the exception of Butterfield's dock in Hongkong, which will start” active operations shortly,- If you study these things and compare them with' the accounts of the Shanghai Deck & En. gineering Co. for the last six years it will become quite clear to you that our earning capacity as a ship-building and repairing con. cern (with the capital with which we are ham. pered) is going from bad to worse, and that nothing can be more sensible than to try and turn some of our idle aisate into profit-asrning
