Rumours were current in town yesterday morning that the Devanke had come in with her foremast gone and had otherwise been seriously damaged by a typhoon she had en. countered after leaving Hongkong, and to gain the actual story of the happenings a re- presentative of the Singapore Free Press went down to the big mail boat shortly after her ar rival. At the first glance it was seen that the story of the dismanting was an exaggeration, for both masts were in position though the ship had obviously been made. snug up aloft.. Going on board our representative asked for Captain Hide and was courteously feld that the Chief Officer would be pleased to give him the particulars of the Devanha's encounter with the storm which had been a pretty severd one, and bad necessitated her being hove-to for a solid twenty-four hours,
