DONE BY TRYING. Nobody can tell what he can do till he tries, When a thing ought to be done the modern spirit moves us to keep working away at it until it is done. In the face of this idea the "impossible vanishes. Where there's a will, there's a way. If we could but rob cod liver | oil of its sickening taste, and smell and then combine it, with two or three other ingredients wa should possess the best remedy in the world for certain diseases that are now practically incurable. Se said a famous English physi cian twenty-five years ago. "But it will never be done," he added. "You can no more turn end liver oil into a pleasant palatable medicine, than you can tem the Codfish itself into a Bird of Paradise." Yet he lived to admit that in
WAMPOLE'S PREPARATION the "impossible" bad been accomplished. It is palatable as honey and contains all the nutritive and curative properties of Pure Cod | Liver Oil, extracted by us from fresh cod livera, combined with the Compound Serup of Hypophosphites, Extracts of Malt and Wild Cherry. Yet a large part of this total of $650,000,000 worth thas drawn from Europe is of a character i which the United States can readily produce,
In that section of the Orient lying in the temperate zone the United States is muking good progress along certain limited lines of commerce. In colton goods, mineral oils, and copper for China, and machinery, railway supplies, manufactures of iron and 'iteol, and flour for Vorea and Japan, the United States is | rapidly developing-its-sales._____
The United States, the world's largest pro ducer of copper, is finding a ready market in Chins for that article, by reason of the special demand in manufacturing the new class of |coina being largely turned out by the minis of the various provinces. In Japan the build. (Qing and operation of railroads and factories has opened a market. for machinery, railway appliances, and other manufactures of iron and teel, and as the United States is nearer, geographically, to her, principal markets, than are the manufactures of ́Europe these sup plies are drawn largely from the United States. A growing taste in Japan for four, coupled with a shortage of rica in recent years, has led to a small but increasing importation of four from the nearest and most natural market-the Facide coast of the United States.
