It is my desire that this institution shall afford accommodation for the large class of persons of slender means in professional or other employments for which no provision for sickness of this kind at present exists.

I pray God's ble may rest upon this building, and иров all who work within it, and all who come to it for aid, and that it may he the means of alleviating suffering and saving

Four hundred feet above the sea rises the cheery red-brick sanatorium, stretching out a wide crescent of wings to catch the southern sun and breezes, Wide verandahs swing round with its curve, on to

each room opens with a large glass doorway. To those the beds. will be wheeled at night, winter and summer (kave in rainy weather), and there God's air will! work its own cure on the scarred lungs of the sufferers from the white scourge.

TO-HUMAN-BEINGS.

I has been left to recent investigators to prove the important ôle played by animals an the causation and transmission of disease. Dr. Louis Lambon, lecturing at the Institure of Publie Health, showed that tropical diucases hitherto supposed in be due to heat were in reality caused by-parasites,

Parasites ware frequently carried by becom ing adherent to the hair of animals, by bein ingested and then deposited, or by getting into the blood of animals or insects, which an bi- ing man deposited the parasites in his blood.

Flies are the great scourge, being the bearers of the, germs of almost every disease, includ. ing cholera, enteric, and anthrax, Dr, Limbon sbowed how plague was conveyed from the rat by means of rat fleas, which take up the quarter on the domestic cat and dog, bringing

plagúe germ with

Dr. Lambon has been at work during the past few weeks investigating the past taken by the ordinary domestic animals, such as the cat and deg, in transmitting diseas: He has dis covered sufficient evidence to show that many of the diseases of man ate transmitted by these animals, and the results of his work, are to be published shortly. ·
