As to manitation, the report says that inspec. ("The order of the „superintendent, as re-tinn has been withdrawn from one Chicago ported by one workmen," was, 'No saving of sinughter house since the repart of April 9 was

The smoke room conditions were said to be. very good, also the dressing room of the beef] 'killing kang. The water closet is located in a
corner of the killing beds.
The sausage plant department and smoked beaf department were commended. In the main tank-room & water closet is located which in apparently flushed, and was found in as opsanitary condition.

The report says regarding the statements made that the government does not attempt to examine sausage or similar products after they are finished.

Another canning room was clean, light and Ingalls, Am. transport, fos, Scott, 3rd July, Providence, Nor. s., 693, Skarrabo, 16th June,
dry. In the chipped beef department the floors were old, and wondeo, þur clean. There was some evidence of whitewashi on the walls and
ceilings, and the lower wood work was painted. The water closet for men in the canning room is separated and well flushed, though poorly lighted.
The beef extract department has cement
floors and clean window, is nicely whitewash ed and painted and is generally wanitary. In the beef cutliny and trimming 100m "the floor was crusted with dirt... Artifici»l light,"
Abattoir No z was gone through with the same detail, and the condition reported batter in many respects than in No. 1.
The cooking, stuffing and soldering room in No. 3 was given this description:
# This room contains a processing machine in which the canned product is cooked in oil, and the room is ventilated-over this machine. .. The room is in a fair condition as to paint and whitewash and the finor is filly clean. The ventilation about the soldering machine is not good. About the stuffing machine a box is Arranged on the floor to catch the fal ing
meat. Near the cooking retorts the old clothes of the workmen were piled or hung.
"The room was steamy, nod quantities of canned veal having the appearance of ave, were observed. The rafters were encrusted with dirt, in some places to the der th of an inch in the vicinity of the 'cooking retorts, place a quarter inch stream of water was run ping on to the floor f om a height of three or four feet. On the east side of the room the Boar was very dirty. The ceiling was so ar ranged as to make this practically a half story. It was very dark and only artificially lighted.
POOK VENTILATION.

The beef extract room in this building wa also clean but the extract kitchen was steamy and poorly ventilated.
In the ham packing room was a water closet which had not outside ventilation and dark and dirty.
Abattoir No, 3 war-next, described in the same detail, and Dext No. 22, the report on which begins by stating:
The water closets in this chaning establish. ment are located in separate rooms, clean in every paticular and weil flushed."
A woman attendant was in charge of every women's closet.

"in abattoir No 97 the beef beds were well lighted and ventilated, but the floors were in a Althy condition. There were no water closets in this establishment. The coolers were in an unsatisfactory condition.
INDESCHIDÁBLY FILTHY,
Abattoir No. 96, the report says, reminds ans of the typical country slaughter house, being indescribably filthy. In the sheep-killing room the floors were encrusted with dirt to the depth of about two inches,.
"The condition of this house is disgraceful, and more unsanitary conditions for en abattoir cannot be well imagined. The coolers are ald fashioned, chilled by the primitive method of blocks of ice.
"The gut form is located in one corner of the building, in close proximity to the killing floor and tanks. The ceiling was low and the room generally was in the most filiby coadi tion of any gut raam werver bserved. There Ware no water closets in this establishment.”

Mails for Hyman, Sanhue, Kangmoon, Kumchuk, Ramstul, Wuchow and Canton every evening ni 3.p.m. On Sundīga the mails will be closed at 9 am
No mail will be closed for Canton on Satur day evening.
